Very happy with Custom Packaging Lane. Sam and Sarah were great to work with. The quality of the printing and speedy delivery was very much appreciated. I use them for 2 of our custom printed boxes and will be using them for more projects moving forward. Sam was wonderful and even caught a typo that I missed. Thank you.

An open-ended paperboard band exposes part of the bar, while a folding carton encloses the product on all six faces. In packaging trade usage, a sleeve can also mean an outer wrap that slides over a separate tray, so a specification should state whether an inner component is included. The band format uses less board and gives a direct view of the bar. An enclosed die-cut soap box adds closure panels and more printable area.
| Format | Construction | Primary fit check |
|---|---|---|
| Open band | One glued paperboard wrap with open ends | Grip around the bar without edge curl |
| Sleeve and tray | Sliding wrap plus a separate inner tray | Clearance after print and finishing |
| Folding carton | Enclosed panels with tuck closures | Dust flaps, glue seam, and product clearance |
The wider cosmetic packaging range helps place the band format within retail paperboard packaging, while sleeve boxes show the separate tray-and-wrap construction.
Measure several finished bars at their widest faces, including any paper wrap or label that remains under the band. Leave enough working clearance for hand loading without making the wrap loose enough to rotate or slide away from the product. Beveled corners, stamped tops, and bars that vary after curing need a physical fit check.
Build the dieline from the largest packed bar, then mark every score, glue tab, cut edge, and exposed face. Fold a plain sample before placing artwork. A wrap drawn only from a nominal mold dimension can bind when the finished bar, belly band overlap, or inner label adds bulk.
Compare C1S paperboard in the common 12 to 24 pt range with kraft board in the 18 to 24 pt range. The former supports a bright printed face, while the latter starts with a brown surface that changes pale ink and unprinted areas. Grain direction should run parallel to the main scores where practical because cross-grain folding is more prone to visible cracking.
Board choice must be tested with the finished bar. An exposed product can transfer surface oils or fragrance to an unsuitable stock, and heavy ink coverage near a score can show a color break after folding. Ask about the appropriate packaging setup for the actual soap formula and contact arrangement.
Score positions deserve the first review because narrow panels leave little room for type, barcodes, or logos. Low-resolution art can print soft, RGB art can shift when converted for press, and missing bleed can reveal an unprinted edge after cutting. Digital production can suit a small set of scents, while offset becomes worth comparing when the same sleeve artwork repeats over a longer run.
A press check should inspect color, registration, solid ink areas, fine reversed type, and placement against the approved proof. Foil stamping, spot UV, embossing, and debossing require separate registered artwork layers, with important elements kept away from scores and the glue seam.
A plain prototype should load without scraping corners, remain in position when the bar is turned, and release without tearing the open edges. Test more than one production bar instead of relying on a single ideal sample. Compare surface feel and fold quality through the sample kit, then approve the packed structure under the handling conditions the finished sleeve will face.
