For a single-wall shipper, 32 ECT is a reference grade that still needs to be checked against the complete load. Packed weight, humidity, unsupported panel span, stack height, cushioning, and handling all affect the board choice. E, B, and C flute create different wall thicknesses and cushioning behavior, so identical test marks do not make two finished packs interchangeable.
Load the selected board with every insert, cable, instruction sheet, and accessory in place. Look for panel bowing, corner crush, closure lift, and product movement after the planned drop and vibration checks. Empty-box strength does not reveal what concentrated weight will do between supports.
Regular slotted containers fit tape-closing stations, full-overlap cartons add board across the top and bottom, and the FEFCO 0427 pattern is a roll end tuck front style with rolled side walls and a hinged lid. Packing speed depends on the folds, locks, and tape passes completed for each unit.
| Structure | Closure geometry | Line check |
|---|---|---|
| Regular slotted container | Outer flaps meet at center | Tape lane and flap gap |
| Full-overlap slotted container | Major flaps cross the panel | Board buildup at top and bottom |
| FEFCO 0427 | Rolled sides, hinged lid, front tuck | Assembly order and lock engagement |
Run the assembly sequence at the intended workstation. Gloves, bulky inserts, and a tight front lock can slow packing even when the blank folds correctly on a sample table.
Packed product dimensions, total weight, orientation, fragile points, cushioning, quantity, and distribution route create a usable specification. Include dividers, bags, cables, labels, and literature rather than measuring the main item alone. The flat production drawing should map cut lines, scores, glue areas, slots, tape lanes, and every printed panel.
Load a fitted prototype and inspect headspace, corner gaps, flap alignment, and closing force. If the item binds during loading or shifts after a shake check, revise the cavity or support points before print plates and cutting tools are approved.
Ink film and liner stress concentrate where a printed panel bends, especially under broad dark coverage. Keep small type and barcodes clear of scores, slots, glue tabs, panel joins, and tape lanes. Kraft and white liners also change how solids appear, so approve color on the specified surface rather than a screen image.
Flexographic printing suits repeated direct-to-board work, while digital printing can handle short runs or frequent version changes. At a press check, inspect registration, ink laydown, score position, rub resistance, and folded color breaks. Low-resolution images, screen-color conversion, and missing bleed should be corrected before release.
Normalize board test, flute, structure, print coverage, tooling, insert, quantity, finish, and delivery destination before comparing unit cost. Record units per master carton, flat-storage footprint, assembly steps, case count, and pallet count because warehouse labor can change the real packed cost.
Compare custom corrugated mailer boxes, custom folding shipping boxes, and custom full colour mailer boxes with one pack-out checklist. The custom mailer box range covers adjacent formats. Order the sample kit before the specification is fixed.
