Stand-up pouches commonly run 3 to 7.5 in wide, while a flat three-side-seal pouch can suit a single bar or a small portion. Bottom-gusset pouches create a display base, side-gusset bags add fill volume, and pillow bags use a center back seal with top and bottom seals. Select the format after weighing the intended fill and checking the largest piece, since hard candy corners, wrapped bars, and soft chews load and settle differently.

A PET/AL/PE laminate is commonly selected when added protection from moisture, oxygen, or light is needed, but the finished structure must match the confection and filling method. Clear PET/PE keeps the contents visible, while a metallized or foil layer blocks the product view and changes barrier performance. Film gauge, sealant layer, zipper, tear notch, and expected storage conditions belong in one specification. Ask us about food-contact options for the intended product.
Run filled samples through sealing, handling, and storage checks with the actual candy. Sharp pieces can puncture a light structure, product oils can affect the inner layer, and sugar dust can migrate into the seal area. Appearance alone does not establish whether a film works for a particular recipe, shelf condition, or packing line.
The broad front panel offers the cleanest logo field, away from gusset folds, zipper tracks, tear notches, and heat-seal bands. Place artwork on the approved dieline and keep required copy within the safe panel area. Barcodes scan more reliably on a flat, high-contrast field than across a reflective seam or expanding fold. Use 300 dpi raster images at final size and add 0.125 in of bleed as a common commercial print standard. Flexographic printing suits repeated rollstock, while digital printing can support short runs or several flavor versions.
Sugar dust, oil, wrinkles, or trapped pieces can interrupt the heat-seal band and leave a weak channel. Hold the fill below the closing area, keep sealing surfaces clean, and test pouches after filling rather than approving an empty sample. On rollstock, the registration mark controls the machine cut and seal position. If that mark drifts, front artwork can enter the back seam, flavor copy can be clipped, or the final cut can land through required information.
