An open-ended paperboard wrap slides over an inner folding carton or tray, adding a printable outer surface without changing how the product is loaded. A drawer format pulls from one end, while a wrap around a closed carton can slide off completely. Compare custom sleeve and tray boxes with soap sleeves when deciding whether the inner piece should be fully enclosed or partly visible.
The opening direction determines where the front panel, thumb notch, glue seam, and required copy belong. Put the product in the intended display orientation before the dieline is drawn. A sleeve designed from an empty inner carton can bind once inserts, labels, or folded instructions increase the finished profile.
Clearance must account for the loaded inner piece, board spring, ink coverage, lamination, score buildup, and the sleeve's glue seam. The correct fit moves without bowing or surface abrasion but does not release when the package is lifted. Establish it with the actual materials because an unprinted white sample can feel looser than the laminated production pack.
Measure every cap, label edge, cable, seal, insert, and instruction sheet in the packed condition. Inserts need loading room instead of matching the product outline exactly. Test the completed pack horizontally and vertically, then cycle the sleeve several times to check scuffing, corner catch, and glue-seam lift.
C1S or C2S paperboard supports scored folding sleeves, while SBS gives a white print surface for retail graphics. Kraft board changes the color base beneath ink and may need a white underprint when bright color is required. A window can use 0.2 to 0.3 mm PET, with enough bond area around the cutout to stay attached during repeated sliding.

Use the sample kit to compare paper surfaces, lamination, and print appearance before fixing the material combination.
The front panel should land in the viewing position after the seam is glued and the inner pack is inserted. Build art on the approved dieline, keep small type away from scores and the glue tab, and check whether any image must align across a corner. A folded mock-up reveals upside-down side panels and interrupted graphics that look correct in the flat file.
Digital printing is useful for short or versioned runs. Offset printing becomes a comparison point for longer runs with broad coverage, controlled color, or several finishes. Matte lamination reduces glare, gloss lamination raises reflectivity, and spot UV requires tight registration. Low-resolution images, RGB conversion shifts, and omitted bleed should be corrected before proof approval.
Flat sleeves reduce storage volume but require folding and gluing or locking before the inner pack is loaded. Preassembled sleeves remove part of that line work but occupy more case space. Trial the actual sequence to record units per master carton, assembly time, case footprint, pallet count, and whether finished surfaces rub in transit.
For a sleeve placed over a folding carton, compare the structures in the custom tuck box range. The outer wrap, inner carton, and shipping case should be approved as one pack-out so a change to board or finish does not create a fit problem downstream.
