I've worked with Custom Packaging Lane a few times this year on packaging for our soaps. They always deliver great looking boxes within our tight deadlines. Frank is super communicative and a pleasure to work with.

Very happy with Custom Packaging Lane. Sam and Sarah were great to work with. The quality of the printing and speedy delivery was very much appreciated. I use them for 2 of our custom printed boxes and will be using them for more projects moving forward. Sam was wonderful and even caught a typo that I missed. Thank you.

Opposing top and bottom closure panels are the defining geometry. A reverse tuck end carton is a folding carton whose main tuck flaps hinge from opposite face panels, so one closes toward the front and the other toward the back. Dust flaps fold inward first, then each main flap tucks behind its receiving panel. A glued manufacturer's joint holds the carton body together while both ends remain available for packing.
This layout nests efficiently on a press sheet and presents large uninterrupted front and back panels. It also places the two tuck openings on different sides, which matters on a packing line. Carton orientation should be marked on the production drawing so operators know which end receives the product and which panel faces forward.
Straight tuck end is the nearest alternative because both main closures hinge from the same face instead of opposite faces. The choice affects panel presentation, packing direction, and how flattened cartons nest, not just the appearance of the lid.
| Structure | End configuration | Packing characteristic | Common fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reverse tuck end | Main flaps hinge from opposite panels | Either end can open for manual loading | Light retail products |
| Straight tuck end | Main flaps hinge from the same panel | Both tuck closures align on one face | Retail cartons with a consistent display front |
| Seal end | End flaps are glued closed | Suited to automated filling and sealing | Products that do not need a reclosable tuck |
| Auto-lock bottom | Preglued base locks when erected | Faster hand setup than loose bottom flaps | Heavier contents needing base support |
Browse the custom tuck box family, then compare straight tuck boxes and seal end tuck boxes using one product, one pack-out direction, and one artwork hierarchy.
Loading clearance, fold allowance, and product orientation must be settled before the closure panels are drawn. Measure the product at its widest, deepest, and tallest packed points, then account for any insert, bag, or protective wrap. Too little clearance makes the carton bow or forces the tuck flap; too much lets the contents strike the end panels.
The production drawing should be created for the selected board rather than enlarged casually from another carton. Paperboard grain should run perpendicular to the main scores when possible, because that direction generally folds more cleanly and resists cracking. A PET window commonly uses 0.2 to 0.3 mm film applied by window patching, the process of gluing clear film behind a cut opening. Keep the window clear of scores and the manufacturer's joint.
Panel orientation, score positions, tuck friction, dust-flap clearance, and the glued joint need a physical fit check before print setup. Type placed too near a score can appear off-center after folding, and solid ink across a fold can expose cracking if the board and finish are mismatched. Low-resolution art, missing bleed, and RGB color are common prepress problems.
Digital printing usually fits short runs and frequent version changes; offset becomes attractive when its setup is distributed across a larger run. The crossover should be quoted on the same board, coverage, finish, and quantity. Foil stamping transfers metallic film with heat and pressure, spot UV adds a localized glossy coating, and embossing or debossing raises or recesses selected areas. Each effect needs its own artwork layer and registration allowance.
Fold a blank with the actual product before approving the digital proof. Use the sample kit for surface and finish comparison, then confirm that the tabs close without panel bowing and that the packed carton presents the intended front face.
