Very happy with Custom Packaging Lane. Sam and Sarah were great to work with. The quality of the printing and speedy delivery was very much appreciated. I use them for 2 of our custom printed boxes and will be using them for more projects moving forward. Sam was wonderful and even caught a typo that I missed. Thank you.

The CPL sample kit contains physical packaging references for stock, meaning the board or paper selected for a pack, along with finishes and print treatment before a production run. A sample is a handled object, not a screen image: you can bend the board, check surface glare, inspect print coverage, and see how a coating changes the feel. Keep the samples beside your product while you decide what the finished pack needs to do.
Use the kit to compare the pack against the real product. A sheet on a monitor cannot show board stiffness, fold memory, coating drag, or how a sleeve catches on a tray. Keep one sample for your purchasing file and mark the stock and finish you want quoted.
Reviewing a sample before artwork approval exposes problems that a flat file hides. A sleeve can feel too tight, a tray can leave room for the product to rattle, and a dark ink field can look different on kraft than on white paper. RGB artwork can shift when it is converted for press. Small type placed across a score can break at the fold. The sample will not replace a digital proof, but it gives the proof a physical reference.
Paperboard folds flat, kraft shows a brown paper base, corrugated board adds a fluted layer between liners, and rigid chipboard holds a wrapped box shape. The tradeoff is visible when the sample sits next to the packed product.
| Material | Physical cue | Useful for | Tradeoff |
|---|---|---|---|
| White paperboard | Smooth paperboard surface | Folding cartons and printed panels | Folds flat and gives print a light base |
| Kraft paperboard | Brown paper surface | Natural visual direction | Base color changes ink appearance |
| Corrugated board | Fluted center between liners | Shippers and protective packs | Adds structure and thickness |
| Rigid chipboard | Dense board wrapped in paper | Set-up boxes and presentation packs | Holds shape without a fold |
| Matte lamination | Low-glare film finish | Readable panels and touch-heavy packs | Mutes surface reflection |
| Gloss lamination | Reflective film finish | High-contrast printed panels | Adds glare under direct light |
Run a simple handling check. Fold the carton, slide the sleeve, open the tray, and place the product inside. Check the edges, corners, inner clearance, and printed panels. If the sample does not match the final dimensions, use it to compare materials and finishes only, then wait for the product-specific dieline and digital proof.
A packaging sample can reveal whether the stock, finish, ink coverage, and artwork belong together. Check the logo at the fold, the barcode against the printed background, and the bleed beyond every cut edge. Press files should be checked after RGB artwork is converted for press because screen color and printed color can differ. If the type is close to a score, move it before the proof is approved. That edit is cheaper before the run than after a pallet is packed.
The CPL sample kit is $19.99, and the kit price is credited toward the first order. Shipping in the US is free. If the sample answers the stock and finish questions, send the packed product dimensions and artwork status for free design support. We draw the dieline and send a digital proof before anything prints. Production is typically 8 to 10 business days after proof approval, plus delivery.
If the packaging will hold a diagnostic product, compare health test kit boxes with custom DNA test kit boxes. For the broader format range, visit our custom packaging design page. To order the kit, use the sample kit page.
The CPL Sample Kit costs $19.99. The kit price is credited toward the first order, so the physical packaging references can support a later custom packaging quote. Shipping in the US is free. The kit is for comparing stocks, finishes, and print treatment before the production proof is approved.
The CPL Sample Kit lets buyers compare physical packaging stocks, finishes, and print treatment. A buyer can handle paperboard, kraft, corrugated, or rigid references, then check glare, surface feel, fold behavior, and print coverage beside the actual product. The kit helps turn a screen preference into a specific quote request.
Yes. The CPL Sample Kit gives a physical reference for board stiffness, surface coating, printed coverage, and fold behavior. A screen cannot show how a sleeve slides over a tray or how matte and gloss surfaces reflect light. Use the sample beside the product before selecting the stock and finish for the digital proof.
Yes. The $19.99 CPL Sample Kit price is credited toward the first order. The credit applies after the buyer moves from sample review to a custom packaging order. The kit also ships free in the US, so the buyer can inspect packaging references before approving the production proof.
After reviewing the CPL Sample Kit, send the packed product dimensions, intended quantity, preferred stock, finish direction, and artwork status. Free design support includes drawing the dieline. Custom Packaging Lane then sends a digital proof before anything prints, and production is typically 8 to 10 business days after proof approval, plus delivery.
